Food Pantry

The Food Pantry is open by appointment only, on Wednesdays, 2:00 to 6:00 pm, Thursdays, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and two Saturdays a month, 9:00 am to 12 noon.  Guests may shop in the Food Pantry twice a month. Guests are escorted through the Pantry by a volunteer, who assists the guest in selecting from a variety of food items – dry goods, frozen meats, fresh fruits and vegetables and breads and sweets.  Item selection is based on availability.  Volunteers assist guests in loading their groceries into their vehicle.  The amount of food guests receive is based on family size and is considered supplemental food – enough food for three days.

Hunters Feed those in Need Program

In 2021 Community Compassion Network started our 'Hunters Feed Those in Need' program to supply venison to our guests.  Our guests Love Venison!  Many are former hunters and many others grew up eating venison.

We partner with Smith and Sons Meat Processing to offer FREE processing of the deer that are donated to the CCN Food Pantry.  This program has become a great success, in 2021 we received 7 deer, 2022 - 11 deer, 2023 - 33 deer and in 2024 - 44 deer!

Community members may drop off deer from Bow and Early Rifle season all the way to the extended seasons in January and let Smith's know it is for the CCN Food Pantry.  Smith and Sons Meat Processing is located at 5080 E. Broadway Road in Mt Pleasant phone 989-772-6048 for more information.

CCN thanks our Local Hunters for making this program a great success!

Garden Project

Community Compassion Network has started a Community Garden Project to engage community members and gardeners in growing produce for our Food Pantry. In 2024 we started with a small plot at the ‘Community Garden’ on CMU’s campus. This garden produced a large variety of vegetables and fruit and has been a great success. With this success, in 2025 we have partnered with the Commission On Aging (COA) to establish a ‘raised bed’ garden at their location. The harvested produce will go to the Food Pantry, and the garden beds will provide an accessible gardening opportunity for seniors.
